Pivot Golf in Doddington Road, Lincoln

Pivot Golf, on Doddington Road in Lincoln, is a generous, sociable kind of golf venue. There are five simulator bays, all running TrackMan iO, which uses radar, infrared and high-speed imaging to read club and ball in real time, with more than 480 courses to choose from. Up to eight people can share a bay, and the bar, the coffee and the food mean nobody has to head elsewhere afterwards.

The little touches are what stand out. Ping clubs are included with every booking, in men's, ladies' and junior sets, both left- and right-handed, so a beginner can turn up with nothing at all. Up to two children under 12 play free in each bay with a full-paying adult. The bar is fully licensed, the coffee is made by a barista, and the food, from breakfasts and light bites to sharing platters and a children's menu, comes from Damons. Four big screens show Sky Sports and TNT Sports, and parking on site is free.

The offers make it easy to try. An Early Bird hour for one adult, with a coffee, starts at £25 before midday from Monday to Thursday. The 4 Ball Deal gives four adults two hours and a drink each from £22.50 a person, and there are Date Night and Family Deal packages at £47.50. Standard bay prices are shown in the online booking system rather than on the website.

For golfers who want to improve, Pivot has a team of coaches offering private and group lessons on TrackMan, and custom club fitting in a private bay, with Ping and PXG among the brands. Members get member nights and tournaments.

The venue says it is wheelchair accessible. Under-18s need to be with an adult. It opens at 9am at weekends and stays open until 10pm most nights. For a Christmas do, a birthday or simply a good evening out in Lincoln, it is a very welcoming choice.
